Biography

Anthony S. Welch is the co-founder of BetterLife Communications, a company specializing in personal and community change strategies and processes. The company currently provides consulting services to Newark Now, a non-profit organization founded in 2002 by Cory Booker, the current Mayor of Newark, New Jersey.

In addition through BetterLife Communications, Anthony lectures widely across the country, conducting speeches on the continuing relevance of Dr. King’s philosophy, message, and leadership. BetterLife Communications also provides consulting and training services in a variety of areas, including strategic plan development, workshops on strengthening communications skills, capacity-building trainings to help educators and students engage in ongoing service-learning, civic education, and character education initiatives, and seminars on lessons from the civil rights movement for today's social change efforts.

Anthony served as Chief Operating Officer of Newark Now, a non-profit organization that partners with community organizations, philanthropic entities, and the Office of Mayor Cory Booker to design and implement neighborhood and city-wide initiatives that increase safety, child and family well-being, economic opportunity, and civic participation in Newark, New Jersey.

Anthony began his career as a senior financial analyst at the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, where he helped determine the financial direction of several regional economic development projects. Anthony has served as president of Do Something, a national youth civic leadership organization that provides curricula, resource guides, grants, and training to young people, schools and community organizations across the country.

Anthony has worked as a consultant and trainer for several non-profit organizations, including the Academy for Educational Development (AED), Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation, and the New Jersey Center for Character Education. Anthony also coordinated the Governor’s School of Engineering and Technology, a summer enrichment program for high school seniors, at Rutgers University.

Anthony serves on the board of the National Center for Learning and Citizenship of the Education Commission of the States, and served as Chairman of the National Service-Learning Partnership.

Anthony received an MBA from Rutgers University (Newark), and a B.A. in Biochemistry from Rutgers University (New Brunswick-Piscataway).

Anthony and his wife reside in New Jersey.
